MONGOL EMPIRE: Qubilay Khan, Circa 658-693 Hjiri / 1260-1294 AD. AE Dirham (7.70 g). Mint: Bukhara, Dated 660 Hijri (1262 AD). Rev: Mint-name in center "سكه بخارا" (the coin of Bukhara in persian), Date in margin. Obv: Chinese character 'bu-hua' the Chinese name of the city, meaning 'Bukhara' in Chinese, Date in margin "ضرب هذا الدرهم ببلد الفاخرة سنة ستين وستمائة"(this dirham was struck at the Glorious City in the year six hundred and sixty' in Arabic). with the mint epithet baldat fakhira plus the date in the margin on both side, clear date, fabulous strike for this important type, Good VF, This type, with the mint name in Chinese instead of the Chinese character for "tax" is much rarer than the "tax" variety. Extremely Rare.


*Qubilay (Kublai Khan), also known by his temple name as the Emperor Shizu of Yuan and his regnal name Setsen Khan, was the founder and first emperor of the Mongol-led Yuan dynasty of China. He proclaimed the dynastic name "Great Yuan" in 1271 AD, and ruled Yuan China until his death in 1294 AD. Kublai was the second son of Tolui by his chief wife Sorghaghtani Beki, and a grandson of Genghis Khan. He was almost 12 when Genghis Khan died in 1227 AD. He had succeeded his older brother Möngke as Khagan in 1260, but had to defeat his younger brother Ariq Böke in the Toluid Civil War.
