ISLAMIC AFGHANISTAN, DURRANI EMPIRE: Shah Shuja al-Mulk, circa (AH 1218-1224 / 1803-1809 AD), AV Gold Mohur (10.67 g). Mint: Ashraf al-Bilad Ahmadshahi (Qandahar). Dated 1808 (AH1223). Rare example. EF. One of the most elegant Durrani mohurs, with the beautiful calligraphy and magnificent design.

*Shah Shuja al-Mulk also is known as Shuja Shah Durrani Khan was the fifth ruler of the Durrani Empire. He ruled the Durrani Empire two times; his first reign starts from 1803 CE till 1809 CE and his second reign starts from 1839 CE until his death in 1842 CE. Before sitting on the throne of the Durrani Empire he had also served as the governor of Herat and Peshawar from 1798 CE till 1801 CE. He proclaimed himself as the king of Afghanistan in the year 1801 CE after the deposition of his brother Zaman Khan. But, he got a proper hold on the throne of the Durrani Empire in the year 1803 CE.
